Welcome to Raízes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – a community-centric Crosby Jiu Jitsu academy! Everything we do is about helping students grow rather than focusing on superficial goals. We are the first U.S. Ricardo Evangelista affiliate. In keeping with his spirit of helping those in need, we are going back to Brazilian roots and the basics. Students in Kids Jiu Jitsu classes learn to build confidence, deal with hardship and become stronger humans. Meanwhile, our adult Jiu Jitsu classes emphasize community, creating friendships that encourage the joy in getting in shape. This all stems from an overall focus in self-defense martial arts, a family-oriented environment, and providing competition lessons to those interested. About Our School
Every day we bring in a family-friendly, welcoming energy for our students. We want to help anyone and everyone who joins us to reach their goals. This starts with our instructors. Led by Alex Black, Jeff Gaspar, and Ricardo Evangelista, our team has a strong passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have seen how it can change people’s lives. That follows into our teaching style, which is accommodating for everyone. No matter your age, skillset, fitness level, etc., we can help you achieve the most through Jiu-Jitsu lessons. Our History
We opened our academy to bring the small town of Crosby Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our goal was to bring back Brazilian roots, which pushed us to become the first Ricardo Evangelista U.S. affiliate. Ricardo is a 10-time World Champion and has a long list of accolades as well as a strong passion for helping others. We carry this on at Raízes through the work of our head instructors. They, alongside owners Alex Black and Jeff Gaspar, are hoping to use all their skills and experiences to become a part of the community and build young, strong adults who positively impact the world.

Our Affiliation
We are affiliated with Ricardo Evangelista, one of the most accomplished Jiu Jitsu competitors in the world. He has taken home many different titles, including at IBJJF Worlds Masters in 2023 and 2024. His affiliation with us is his first in the United States and is the start of something special! As well as the affiliation, we’ll have multiple black belts on the mat at all times.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program
Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is designed to help students grow in their own way. It is important our Jiu Jitsu lessons focus on personal development instead of anything that doesn’t concern the student. We make sure to provide personal training by splitting up our program into kids Jiu-Jitsu (two classes: ages 4-6 and 7-12) and adult Jiu Jitsu. Come on in and check out how the right class for you and your family can help you become your best self!
Kids Jiu Jitsu (ages 4-6 & 7-12)
Our kids Jiu Jitsu classes are structured around building discipline and focus. We help students build confidence and athleticism in a team environment that everyone can thrive in. Our kids Jiu Jitsu program is split between two classes: 4-6 and 7-12.
Home-school Jiu Jitsu (ages 5-12)
Our Home-school Jiu Jitsu program is a great resource for children 5-12 years old. We offer home-schooled students a place to grow their confidence, discipline, focus, and overall athleticism. This Jiu Jitsu class is a great activity for your kids to grow on and off the mat!
Adult Jiu Jitsu (ages 13+)
We focus on building a sense of community in our adult Jiu Jitsu classes. The course helps people get in shape and improve their health and fitness while pushing them toward achieving their personal goals.
